Born in Germany in 1883, Heinefield came to this country when he was 11 years old. Although he made his living as a carpenter, decoy carving was a hobby he enjoyed. It is thought he only made 200-300 decoys most of which were made for John Glenn. This drake canvasback represents his most popular species with his signature upswept tail and snakey head. Probably made in the 1920’s, this sculptural example is in an early second coat of paint showing wear from use. It measures approximately 15” long.
