The “Father of American Bird Carving” as he is known, Elmer Crowell carved and painted this “Flatty” Yellowlegs at his shop in East Harwich, Massachusetts circa 1910-1920. Exhibiting his extraordinary “wet on wet” oil paints as he is known for in the carving world. Crowell decoys are extremely rare and have sold at auction for over $1M for a single decoy. This yellowlegs is a fine example of his work with detailed feather patterns and enhanced by split tail carving. The head has restored paint that looks to be quite old. It measures just under 12” long.
